Tasracing will introduce a Minimum Bet Limit (MBL) for approved wagering service providers effective 1 July 2017.
The introduction of an MBL will allow punters to win up to $1000.
The new condition means wagering operators must take a bet on any single fixed odds win wager (for example, accept a $100 bet on a runner paying $10).
It will apply to all fixed odds bets on Tasmanian thoroughbred races placed after 9am for day meetings and after 2pm for race meetings starting after 5pm.
Tasracing CEO Vaughn Lynch said the MBL would be applied to all off-course Australian wagering operators that were approved to use Tasmanian thoroughbred race field information.
“The MBL introduction has been implemented in consultation with wagering service providers and is a win-win for punters and the Tasmanian racing industry,” he said.
“It provides punters with certainty around being able to place their bets, and should result in higher liquidity in the Tasmanian wagering market.”
Mr Lynch said the decision brought Tasmanian throughbred racing into line with New South Wales, Queensland and Victorian thoroughbred racing jurisdictions.
