The Interim Commissioner for Children and Young People has congratulated the Tasmanian Government for opting in to the National Redress Scheme.

Interim Commissioner David Clements said today’s announcement by Attorney General Elise Archer was an important one that would support victims of child sexual abuse in Tasmania and interstate.

“Contributing to and signing up to the scheme is of critical importance,” he said.

“Having a truly national redress scheme for sexual abuse survivors was a key recommendation of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse, so it is important that Tasmania plays its part.

“Accessing compensation, counselling and other support through the scheme will be beneficial to the survivors of sexual abuse.”
